Astrology, Magic and Natural Knowledge ca. 1250-1500: Completing Volume I of My Monograph
Dr. Darrel Rutkin
I intend to complete volume I of my monograph, Reframing the Scientific Revolution: Astrology, Magic and Natural Knowledge, ca. 1250-1800. Volume I (Structures: 1250-1500) is primarily concerned with reconstructing astrology’s fundamentally Aristotelian and Ptolemaic natural philosophical foundations as studied and taught at Europe’s finest universities. In this way, modern scholars may gain significantly greater insight into how astrology informed the ways that medieval European thinkers understood the central issues of fate, freedom and prognostication (among others) within the broader context of their premodern scientific world-view, which continued to be studied and taught well into the 17th century.
