Curriculum Vitae

Born 1969 in Kiel, Germany, Sven Sellmer studied philosophy, Indology and classical philology at the University of Kiel. He graduated in 1997 with an M.A. thesis on Pre-Socratic philosophy, published under the title "Argumentationsstrukturen bei Parmenides".

From 2000-2003, he worked as an assistant professor at the Institute of Oriental Studies, University of Kiel, where he taught Sanskrit at various levels. In 2005, he received the title of Dr. phil. for a comparative study of Indian and Greek approaches to the topic of subjectivity. Since 2004, he has been a senior lecturer at the University of Poznań, Poland, where he teaches Sanskrit and Indian philosophy.

Presently, his main field of interest is the Indian epics, especially the Mahâbhârata. Trying to reconstruct the implicit anthropology of this epic, he is – with the help of self-designed computer programmes – working on establishing methodological foundations for semantic and conceptual research on orally composed Sanskrit texts.
