Huguenot Prophecy and Diplomacy in Early Modern Bavaria (1685-1730)
Curriculum Vitae
Lionel Laborie is a visiting researcher at Goldsmiths, University of London, with a PhD in early modern history from the University of East Anglia (2011). His research explores the relationship between prophecy and diplomacy in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, more specifically through the international impact of the Camisards after their rebellion in the Cévennes mountains between 1702 and 1710. His first book (Manchester University Press, forthcoming) looks at these ′French Prophets′ as a case study of religious enthusiasm in eighteenth-century England. His postdoctoral project, Millenarian Networks in Early Enlightenment Europe: The French Connection (1685-1750), follows the Camisards on their prophetic missions to Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, Turkey, Italy and colonial America to map their millenarian network for the first time and reassess the international legacy of the last French war of religion.
