Cristina Andenna is Research Coordinator and Academic Manager at the Research Center for Comparative History of Religious Orders of the Technical University, Dresden (FOVOG).
She obtained her PhD in 2001 from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan with a thesis entitled "Mortariensis ecclesia. Una congregazione di canonici regolari nel secolo XII" and afterwards received a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Padua.
She spent extensive periods engaged in research and study in Germany. In particular, in 2002-2003, she worked at the Technical University, Dresden, on a research fellowship granted by the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation within Project C of the Collaborative Research Centre 537, "Institutionality and Historicity", and afterwards was awarded a three-month research fellowship, again by the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation, to work at the Research Centre for Comparative History of Religious Orders (FOVOG) of the Catholic University of Eichstätt.
In 2004, she became a lecturer in the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University of Basilicata (Italy), where she remained until August 2011. During the academic year 2008/09, she worked as a substitute Professor at the Institute of Medieval History of the Technical University, Dresden, and during the winter semester 2010/11, was a substitute Professor at the Institute of Medieval History and Auxiliary Sciences of History of the University of Trier. Since 2009, she has been project director of Project C "Dynasty, Suitability, Transcendence. Comparative Studies on the Later Middle Ages" of the Collaborative Research Centre 804 "Transcendence and Common Sense" at the Technical University, Dresden.
She has published various articles on the history of the religious orders of the Middle Ages and is currently working on the legitimation of the rule and the politics of the House of Hohenstaufen in Southern Italy.
