The International Research Consortium “Fate, Freedom and Prognostication. Strategies for Coping with the Future in East Asia and Europe” at the FAU would like to welcome you to our conference “Mantic Arts in China” on July 19th-22nd, 2016. Mantic arts have long been dismissed as “superstitious” or “irrational.” However, this rejected knowledge not only sheds light on the history of science and technology, but also helps us to understand the wide range of human activities that are yet to be seriously considered in many scholarly fields. This conference is an initiative to bring together scholars from various fields who study prediction and foreknowledge and to exchange our intellectual insights. In order to perpetuate these exchanges, the Consortium would like to launch a publication series that is aimed at helping scholars publish their works in this field. In addition, we also propose to form an intellectual community: the International Society for the Study of Mantic Arts (ISSMA).
