It is a great pleasure to announce that, on May 29, 2020, the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande) was awarded to IKGF Deputy Director Professor Klaus Herbers. The official award ceremony was held by the Bavarian State Minister of the interior, Joachim Herrmann, at the Heinrich-Lades Hall, Erlangen, on October 2, 2020.

Prof. Dr. Michael Puett appointed as "FAU-Ambassador"

Former IKGF Visiting Fellow Prof. Dr. Michael Puett was appointed as ambassador of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg in autumn 2017. He talked about his affiliation with Erlangen and his new mission as ambassador with the university magazine "alexander", published in March 2018.

Prof. Dr. Klaus Herbers elected as vice-president of the Union Académique Internationale.

October 2017

The general assembly of the Union Académique Internationale (UAI) at Tokyo elected Prof. Dr. Klaus Herbers as vice-president on October 25, 2017, for four years. The UAI is a worldwide federation of all academies of sciences and humanities. Besides Klaus Herbers, Prof. Dr. Jens-Uwe Hartmann (Munich) represents the Union of German Academies at the UAI.

Former IKGF Visiting Fellow Prof. Dr. Terry Kleeman was honoured with the Médaille Stanislas Julien 2017 for his study on "Celestial Masters: History and Ritual in Early Daoist Communities", which he prepared during his stay at the consortium.

Prof. Dr. Michael Lackner honoured with Tsungming Tu award

January 2017

The Taiwanese National Science Council has awarded IKGF’s Director, Prof. Dr. Michael Lackner, with the Tsungming Tu Award 2017. Established in 2006, the award is “given to foreign scientists of international renown with great discoveries or achievements in their academic research fields.” Professor Lackner is the first scholar in the humanities to receive this honour.

On December 3, 2014, upon invitation of the Department of East Asian Studies, Princeton University, Prof. Dr. Michael Lackner delivered the 9th Annual F.W. Mote Memorial Lecture “The Minor Ways Have Their Reason - Discourses on Divination in Chinese Tradition”. The annual lecture in honor of Professor Mote invites to Princeton distinguished scholars of Chinese studies.
