Horoscopy across Civilizations: Comparative Approaches to Western, Indian, and Chinese Astrology and Chronomancy

June 29, 2016
June 30, 2016 (closed think tank meeting)

Convenors: Michael Lackner, Stephan Heilen

With this workshop, the IKGF Erlangen establishes the first academic forum ever for the direct comparison, across the boundaries of epochs and civilizations, of horoscopic, i.e. timebased methods to predict and explain individual fate. The workshop will provide an opportunity for experts in the various fields to reflect on the relationship of horoscopy and divination in the astrological and chronomantical teachings of China, India, and the Western World. The different methods will first be characterized and compared theoretically and then be elucidated through transcultural, multiperspective analyses of practical examples. Complementary papers will focus on the role of astrology in today’s world and on the relationship of science and divinatory practice.
